The Lead

GCash parent Mynt began trading on the Philippine Stock Exchange on October 20 after a record ₱60.9 billion IPO, giving investors direct exposure to the fintech company and providing it with primary capital for expansion.

Key Facts

  • The IPO comprised 8.03 billion firm shares and a fully exercised 1.20 billion-share overallotment option.
  • Mynt listed under the ticker GCASH with an initial market capitalization of about ₱441.5 billion.
  • Shares closed at the ₱6.60 offer price on October 20 and slipped to ₱6.59 on October 21.

Article Body

Most shares sold in the offering were held by existing shareholders. At ₱6.60 per share, the 1.61 billion-share primary tranche generated about ₱10.6 billion before expenses; Mynt said those proceeds would support digital financial-services growth, product development and general corporate purposes.

In a Bloomberg Television interview, President and CEO Martha Sazon identified lending, services for overseas Filipinos and business customers as growth engines. The listing also drew retail participation through the GCash app: the PSE said 140,725 subscribers invested about ₱1.1 billion.

The record transaction gives the Philippine market a major listed fintech, but the muted early share performance separates fundraising success from the company’s longer-term investment case. Mynt’s first results as a public company will test whether its expansion plans can produce earnings growth sufficient to support the IPO valuation. How quickly can it convert the new capital into profitable growth?

What to Watch

The clearest next signal is whether GCASH can sustain liquidity and move above its ₱6.60 offer price as investors assess earnings growth and the deployment of fresh capital.
